Favorite Gardening Resources

The National Gardening Association has a lot of good free resources. Check out the Garden Learning Library to learn more about all aspects of gardening.
Your local Cooperative Extension Office is one of the best places to start for gardening in your area. Lots of good info and very specific to your problems and issues for your local area.
Backyard Conservation from the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Agriculture practices scaled down to help you make your back yard more earth friendly.

I try to incorporate permaculture principles as well as organic as much as I can in my garden and environment. Here are a couple of websites that explain in detail what permaculture is:
  • Permaculture Principle
  • Permaculture Research Institute
myBluprint.com
Bluprint   (affiliate link) teaches a variety of maker classes online, including gardening classes and topics like photography on your iPhone. They also have a food craft class that would be appropriate for gardeners, especially if you raise your own fruit--Jams and Marmalades. I have an annual subscription which allows me all the classes I want to take. So little time, so many cool new things to learn.

Square Foot Gardening Foundation promotes the SFG method and does humanitarian work to help people learn to feed themselves using this method. I like the SFG method because it lets you garden almost anywhere, regardless of how small your plot of land might be. Lots of free resources on the website plus a great book that will help you garden just about anywhere. Click on the image or follow the link to view the 'All New Square Foot Gardening' (affiliate link).

Mother Earth News  (affiliate link) and Mother Earth Living (affiliate link) have so many resources for living more wisely and sustainably with lots of info on gardening, livestock etc. ME News is more geared to the off grid sustainable farming folks and ME Living is more for the urban dweller who is interested in living more earth friendly. Many useful articles on their website in addition to their magazine. They also publish many other books and magazines for self-sufficient Earth friendly living.
