The Mayans may have been on to something because 2012 was a life changing year for our family. We had a parent living with us who suffered most of the year from complications of a bad fall and broken leg that would not heal. After her second surgery, she had a heart attack and succumbed to those complications just a week ago. I've been out of commission since August with what doctors have now decided is a very large ganglion cyst in my hip joint. Treatment with aspiration and cortisone is just a stop gap measure. It will require surgery. When the small museum where I worked started laying people off, I volunteered for layoff because we had so many personal issues going on that I did not know when I could return to work. I did not want a co-worker laid off who could work when I could not. So I have been amongst the unemployed since Thanksgiving. Oi.
Now we are trying to get back into the swing of things, but the swing will look and feel different for us, I think. We've had a lot of time to think about what really matters in life and sticking with a job you aren't happy with just for the paycheck has been a topic of many discussions. Putting things off until you have time 'after we retire' is also getting a lot of conversation...life is just too short and unpredictable.
Live large, be happy, follow your dreams...and have a great New Year.
I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 1982 and have been gluten free ever since. I went dairy free two years ago. I share recipes, craft patterns, life philosophies and thoughts on this blog. This is just my story. In no way should it be taken as medical advice because every individual is different. There are also a few affiliate links for products I use and recommend. I make a tiny amount of money if you buy something and it in no way changes the price you pay.
